The Vikings are serious about trying to convince Brett Favre to return for another season. That effort became obvious this morning when three of the team's veteran players -- Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell -- were missing from practice.
The three are in Hattiesburg, Miss., trying to make a last-ditch appeal to Favre to reconsider staying retired and return for another season. Longwell is one of Favre's best friends and remains in constant contact with his former Packers teammate. Hutchinson and Allen are acknowledged team leaders that have a similar passion for the game that Favre has.
Whether the appeal will work is subject to debate, but it's clear that, as an organization, the Vikings want No. 4 back in purple for what they hope will be a Super Bowl run.
VU's Tim Yotter is at practice this afternoon and will be interviewing coordinators Darrell Bevell and Leslie Frazier after practice. We will pass along what information they can provide on this strange recruiting trip.
One thing you can say about the Favre saga -- it's never dull.
