Vikings work out Walker, Jones

The Vikings worked out two wide receivers on Friday morning – Brandon Jones and Javon Walker.

Head coach Brad Childress said they were getting physicals in the afternoon and he'd talk to each of them in his office before making a decision.

The Vikings have been thin at the position for much of training camp. Sidney Rice started training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list with a hip injury and remains there, Percy Harvin has missed over two weeks of practice with the death of his grandmother and migraine headaches, and Jaymar Johnson was placed on injured reserve after hurting his thumb or wrist in the preseason opener.

"We're not going to keep all the guys that we have right now, so we'll just see how it goes going forward," Childress said when asked about depth at the position.

Childress said the team is also checking out other "able-bodied" guys as they prepare for a potential Plan B.

Vikings' Johnson goes to injured reserve

Vikings wide receiver Jaymar Johnson is officially on the Vikings' injured reserve now that he has passed through waivers, according to a league source.

Johnson was injured in Saturday night's game against the St. Louis Rams and showed up Monday with his thumb or wrist taped up. When the Vikings needed a roster spot to make room for Brett Favre, Johnson was the victim. He was placed on the waived/injured list and made it through waivers unclaimed.

Last year, Johnson played in six games, catching one pass and returning 16 punts for 134 yards, an 8.4-yard average.

He will remain property of the Vikings for 2010 but won't be able to play.
