Jori Lehtera sidelined after ankle surgery

The St. Louis Blues announced Monday that center Jori Lehtera had surgery on his right ankle on Aug. 4 and is expected to resume skating in six to eight weeks.

Lehtera, 27, suffered the injury at the end of his debut season with the Blues, the club announced.

The Blues’ third-round pick in 2008, Lehtera racked up 44 points (14 goals, 30 assists) and a plus-21 rating in 75 regular season games last season and had two assists in five playoff contests.

St. Louis signed Lehtera to a three-year contract extension last month that begins with the 2016-17 season, which means he will be playing with the Blues for the next four seasons. He carved out a significant role as a top six center in his debut campaign and is expected to center one of the Blues’ top lines again this season.
