St. Louis Blues' goalie Jake Allen named NHL's "Second Star"

St. Louis Blues goalie Jake Allen was honored as the NHL's "Second Star" for his work in three wins last week.

Jake Allen's big week earned him an accolade from the NHL.

The St. Louis Blues goaltender was honored as the “Second Star” for last week, the league announced on Monday, after he went 3-0 with a 0.98 goals-against average against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild.

“It’s a cool achievement,” Allen told reporters. “It’s cool to get noticed. But the team definitely helped me get there. It was a good week overall.”

The 25-year-old recorded his sixth career shutout in a 2-0 win over the Lightning on Tuesday, stopped 22 shots in a 2-1 win over the Ducks on Thursday and then made 29 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory against the Wild on Saturday.

Allen is now 4-2 with a 1.98 GAA and .929 save percentage in six games this season and 35-13-4 with a 2.29 GAA and .913 save percentage in his young career.

He will make his fourth consecutive start for the Blues (8-2-1, 17 points) on Tuesday night against the visiting Los Angeles Kings (7-4-0, 14 points) in the final game of a five-game home stand.

Boston Bruins left winger Brad Marchand was named the “First Star” after scoring four goals and added two assists in three wins.

Edmonton Oilers left winger Taylor Hall was selected as the “Third Star” after leading the NHL in scoring with seven points (two goals, five assists) in three games last week.
