Blues' defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk named NHL's "Third Star" for the week

St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was named the NHL's "Third Star" for his performance last week.

The NHL announced Monday that St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk had been selected as the “Third Star” for the week ending Nov. 22.

Shattenkirk recorded six points in four games last week, including at least one point in each of the team’s four contests. The six points led all defensemen and were third-most among all skaters.

The 26-year-old defenseman has eight points (two goals, six assists) in 11 games this season, after missing time with a lower-body. He’s had seven points (two goals, five assists) in eight games since returning from the injury.

Shattenkirk had a career-high 45 points (10 goals, 35 assists) in 81 games during the 2013-14 season and then had 44 points (eight goals, 36 assists) in 56 games last season.

San Jose Sharks goalie Martin Jones was the “First Star” and Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin was the “Second Star.”

Jones went 3-0 with a 1.63 goals-against average and .951 save percentage for the Sharks last week. Sedin led the NFL with five goals last week and was second with seven points over four games.
