We don't get near-enough time together fishing, so when it does work out I want it to be perfect. But, as we all know things seldom go as planned. Such was the case this past weekend.
Saturday was a tough bite, but we managed to locate what seemed like a pretty good-size group of bluegills and a buddy and I really tuned ‘em up! I knew I had to get my wife and kids there the next afternoon so they, too, could enjoy the excitement.
The night before I was able to get my family on the ice with me, these fish represented what our minute-to-minute bite was like. It was fast! But, the bite didn’t last into the next afternoon.
Well, as you might have guessed, the bite died. We did catch a couple pike and largemouths on tip-ups, but the rod-and-reel bite with jigs and waxies was nothing like it was the night before. I was frustrated.
But, as it usually happens, I was humbled when I was reminded of why I was out there in the first place. Chances are good that my kids would not remember the fish that were caught, rather the time as a whole that we got to spend together on the ice. And that's what I want: I want them to look back and smile about the times we shared!
What's great is when you have a quality shelter, like a Frabill Ambush to keep you comfortable and on the ice longer; those memories are far more likely to be pleasant. Being properly outfitted makes for a better experience, and that's what we all want!
Here is another fine reason to spend your free time outdoors. Simply beautiful!
Invest in the next generation, the future of tomorrow's fishing is in their hands and it's up to us to make sure our heritage becomes theirs!
