Casting Vs Live Bait

Few would argue that the best way to introduce kids to the sport of fishing is with a bobber and a worm. That ageless presentation catches fish like a boss! But, some children seem to prefer to cast.

Admittedly, I'm a bit squeamish and don't really care for live bait. It's always been that way, and I don't care… I just prefer to outsmart the fish with an artificial presentation. I've found that if the fish are biting, my kids will fish LONGER if we are casting and catching fish vs using a live bait beneath a float.

While I'm not really sure why this is, but I believe casting and retrieving is a more engaging style of fishing, and more fun. My kids seem to agree.

Any time you can teach them ‘another' way to hook up with the finned-type, they'll learn more and become better anglers. We had lots of fun catching panfish on small spinners recently and I know that Texas-rigged rubber worms are on the hit list next!
