Over the last 5 months I’ve pushed these shoes to the limit. I didn’t care who, what, when, where or why, these shoes were going in, out, through, and around. I wasn't showing any mercy.
I remember telling Astral, “If these shoes last me a few months I’ll be stoked, but if they actually hold up I’ll be impressed". Needless to say I’m very impressed.
Astral designed the shoes with Cordura and Air Mesh fabrics, which definitely adds to the overall quality and durability. The water beads up and rolls off instead of soaking into the fabric and making your feet damp.
The Brewess—just like the men’s Brewer—is extremely lightweight and breathable, including surrounding drains and Astral’s own G14 Rubber outsole. The Brewer and Brewess are made with a wide toe box, which is nice when you have to kick-in the four-low for a little off-road action.
Water shoes get abused, no question about it. They’re constantly soaked in saltwater one day and then tromped through a swamp the next. Astral’s are designed to take the abuse so you can keep moving forward—you don’t have to be a fisherman to appreciate a good water shoe.
Now, I know the question everyone wants answered and that’s the dreaded odor question. I’m here to tell you, there’s nobody on planet earth that could convince me there’s a water shoe that isn’t instantly going to reek of swamp foot. I’ve made a valid effort to put some stank on these shoes and I cannot accomplish it. They just don’t stink!
