Monster Bass Has A Long Record

This trophy-class largemouth has been caught and released three times in five years.

Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recently published, on its MyFWC Facebook page, this photo of a 12-pound, 15-ounce largemouth that biologists with the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute caught during an electrofishing-and-tagging operation in January.

Upon inspection they found that the fish had been tagged before—in 2010 when it weighed somewhere between 6 and 8 pounds. Later, while searching tagging records, they discovered that the fish had also been caught and released by a recreational angler in 2011.

While the researchers successfully released the monster bass after retagging, they didn’t reveal the name of the lake from which it came.
