Backwater Breakdown

A river's backwater is very important to fish survival in any river system.

Backwaters provide great habitat for spawning fish and great cover for younger fish, too. They also provide a safe haven for fish living in northern climates...it allows them a place to conserve energy in the winter.

We need to be careful and help where we can as many of these areas are filling with organic sediment and fish are being suffocated in the winter under the ice.  Get the full details from Dr. Hal Schramm in the video above.
