Jiggin' for Salmon

This 'Fisherman' episode broke ground on a technique that revolutionized how we looked at chasing Kings.

Here's a technique North American Fisherman host Eric Haataja introduced to us years ago in this piece from Milwaukee harbor. He was a guest at the time, but outings like this put him on the fast track to becoming the host of the show.

The fact that we hardly even needed to use the big motor had us scratching our heads at first. No one really thought you could catch world-class King Salmon with light tackle like baitcasters and spinning rods using jigs with Gulp! artificial baits, especially in the mouth of the harbor.

The ease of this technique and the fact that we barely left the harbor cannot be overstated. Sometimes it pays to try the lowest hanging fruit before burning up a half tank of gas.

While it is always an adventure to head out into the lake and fish deep with downriggers and trolling rigs, this bite is so accessible you may want to go hook the boat trailer up NOW. The Kings are out there waiting...
