Corn Quiz: What Caused This Damage?

Check out this flattened cornfield. Any guesses as to the cause? Aliens? Mini-tornado? Vandals on ATVs?

Wrong, wrong and wrong.

The culprit was a family of black bears; a sow and three cubs to be specific.

And because of the relentless damage done year after year to my western Wisconsin corn food plots (usually in late August), I've decided to never again plant it for whitetails. Instead I'll grow brassicas, which the local bruins don't seem to bother.
