For those who had the chance to watch Bellaire (Tex.) quarterback Trevon Smith, you saw a guy who can get it done through the air or on the ground. And while quarterback is where he will play while at Bellaire, several college coaches have suggested that they may use him elsewhere.
On his end, that is all good as far as he is concerned. Smith sounds as though all he wants in the opportunity.
“Most of the schools are recruiting me as an athlete. Right now, I don’t have any offers,” Smith said. “Texas State and Sam Houston both want me as a quarterback, but most others like me as an athlete.”
Those other schools that the 5-foot-11, 182-pound Smith is referring to Baylor and Oklahoma, two programs that Smith said he has camped at.
As for an offer, it seems as though many of the coaches want to see more from Smith before making the call.
“I talked to Texas State and the coach was saying he wanted to hold back for now and see what they would do at quarterback. The Baylor coaches say they like me at a receiver,” Smith said. Sam Houston said they are waiting to offer me too. With me as a quarterback, I think that I need to get my technique better. But as an athlete, I need to get faster and bigger. I need to be prepared for the next level.”
