WVU Mountaineers Dominate The Rifle Range

This past spring, the No. 1-ranked West Virginia University rifle team won its nation-best 16th NCAA Championship. The title win was the second straight for the Mountaineers and third under 8-year coach Jon Hammond.

Two-time Olympian Jon Hammond (below) guided the WVU Rifle Team to his first title in 2009. The rifle team is the only WVU program to win an NCAA Championship.

One of the top shooters on WVU’s team is three-time NCAA Champion Petra Zublasing (below), and recently she won the women's 10m air rifle competition at the ISSF World Championship and secured a place for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Well done Coach Hammond, sharpshooter Zublasing and all the members of the WVU Rifle Team .

Editor’s note: Of all the mascots in college and pro sports, our clear favorite is the West Virginia University Mountaineer (below). Click here to learn more about this gun-toting tradition.
