Top 10 Hunts Sold At RMEF’s Elk Camp 2014

Auctioning hunting and fishing trips is a mainstay in today’s conservation fundraisers. The annual convention of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, called Elk Camp, is no exception. At Elk Camp 2014, held Dec. 4-6 in Las Vegas, RMEF sold 40 sporting adventures, generating nearly a quarter-million dollars in funding to help conserve elk country.

Here’s a look at the Top 10 sellers at Elk Camp 2014.

1. New Mexico Zuni Indian Reservation Elk Hunt
Winning Bid: $22,000

  • RMEF Donor: Zuni Fish and Wildlife Department

  • Species: Bull elk
  • Area: Unit 11; Zuni Indian Reservation
  • Dates: Sept. 21-27, 2015
  • Number of Hunters: 1
  • Hunter/Guide Ratio: 1:1
  • Description: An opportunity to hunt for a trophy bull elk during the peak of the rut. Hunting license, permit, room and board are included. The biggest bull from Zuni scored 422 B&C in 2007.

2. Nevada Jarbidge Wilderness Elk Hunt with Landowner Tag
Winning Bid: $19,000

  • Description: Only five of these tags are available in 2015. Winner hunts from a wilderness tent camp with horses and mules. This unit has brought in monster bulls for the past two years, averaging more than 350 B&C with bulls up to 400 B&C.

  • Description: A generous landowner donated two of his coveted landowner permits specifically for a Wounded Warrior hunt. Ranch is a steady producer of trophy bucks. Elk sometimes migrate through ranch and if conditions are right, hunt will include elk for no additional cost. Self-guided with hunt and camp assistance from RMEF volunteers (no gratuities accepted), plus all meals.
