As you can see in the video below (and yes, that's her in the photo above), one self-proclaimed “girly girl” who knows how to handle a gun is U.S. Olympian Amanda Furrer. The 22-year-old from Spokane, Washington, shoots in the women’s 50-meter three-position .22 rimfire event, and career highlights include: 2014 National Championships, Silver Medalist (Three-Position), Bronze Medalist (Prone); 2014 Championship of the Americas, Bronze Medalist (Three-Position); 2011 National Championships, bronze medal; 2011 Spring Selection, gold medal; 2010 World Championships, team gold medal.
Amanda competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London where she placed 15th; she was a couple of targets short of making it into a shoot-off to try to advance into the final eight. The gold medal was won by her teammate and good friend Jamie (Beyerle) Gray.Congrats, Jamie!
Amanda has her sights set on the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
All together now: USA! USA!! USA!!!
P.S. Occasionally we editors see Olympic shooters at the annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, which this year will be held in Las Vegas from January 20-23, so if we happen to see Amanda Furrer or Jamie Gray signing autographs, we’ll be sure to stop and say “hello” on behalf of North American Hunter members.
