The Big 5: New Guns From Mossberg

The evening before the SHOT Show didn’t disappoint. Amidst all the dinners, preshow meetings Tweetups and booth construction, Mossberg held an event to announce 4 new gun lines and one major line extension.

Blaze Rimfire Autoloading Rifle
This new addition to the Mossberg rimfire family has an innovative polymer-receiver, and is American-made. Not only is it super lightweight (3 2/3 pounds light) it’s easy to handle. It comes in four finishes with choice of adjustable rifle sights, barrel-mounted rail or in Scoped Combo packages.

Other great features are the easy-loading magazines in 10 or 25-round capacity; the traditional Mossberg top tang safety; a free-floating 16.5-inch barrels with fixed front sight; a 1:16 twist rate; a 3/8-inch dovetail for easy scope mounting. Plus, the synthetic stocks which feature vented forends come in your choice of black or camo-dipped finishes which are Kryptek Highlander, Muddy Girl or Wildfire Camouflage patterns

Patriot Bolt-Action Rifle Series
These rifles combine desirable features from previous Mossberg centerfire rifles in a newly engineered bolt-action platform that features a streamlined bolt handle, redesigned bolt knob and classic-style stocks. The Patriot has over 60 models in 11 of the most popular calibers including two youth versions and Vortex Optics-scoped combos.

Other key feature include free-floating 22-inch barrels (20-inch barrels on Bantam/Super Bantam) that are constructed of carbon steel, and have straight-edge fluting (375 Ruger versions have non-fluted barrels) and recessed crowns; Mossberg’s patented Lightning Bolt Action Adjustable Trigger System for consistent shot placement and is easily adjustable from 2 to 7 pounds; distinctive, spiral-fluted bolts; receiver-mounted, weaver-style scope bases; adjustable, fiber optic sights (select calibers); and sling swivel studs.

Available calibers: 22-250 Rem, 243 Win, 7mm-08, 308 Win, 25-06 Rem, 270 Win, 30-06 Sprg, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag and 375 Ruger.

Blaze 47
The Blaze 47 is new line of lightweight autoloading rimfire rifles that have the look and feel of the an AK-47 rifle. These 22LR autoloaders feature a polymer receiver and are available with fixed-length wood stocks or adjustable black synthetic stocks, featuring Mossberg’s innovative FLEX TLS (Tool-less Locking System) interchangeable recoil pad system. Both wood-stocked and synthetic versions are available with optional 10 or 25-round magazines.

Its molded polymer receiver and action are paired with compact 16.5-inch free-floating, blue-finished barrels with 1:16 twist rate. It also has adjustable fiber optic rear sight and raised front rifle sights; choice of fixed wood stocks with 13 ½-inch length-of-pull (LOP) or lever-activated, 6-position adjustable LOP synthetic stock (11 ¼ - 14 inch) providing greater comfort for all shooters; and optional 10 or 25.

50/590/590A1 L Series (Left-Handed) Shotguns
The 500/590/590A1 L Series is based on the 500 pump-action platform and gives southpaws 15 versions to choose from. Mossberg is going to offer nine general-purpose and hunting versions of the 500 L Series including the 500 FLEX TLS System All-Purpose, the regular 500 All-Purpose, a 500 Turkey and a 500 Waterfowl. The slug specific models are the 500 Field/Deer Combo (includes two barrels), and a 500 Super Bantam for the youngsters. Tactical models are the 590A1 9-shot, a heat-shield version of the 590 9-shot, and three 6-shot, or an optional 8-shot, 500 Tactical shotguns including two Cruiser/Persuader packages.

The All-Purpose and Hunting guns come in black synthetic stocks, fully-camouflaged Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity and Realtree MAX-4 synthetic stocks with camo barrels and receivers.

MVP Series Adds a LR (Long Range) and LR Tactical Models The MVP series adds four new long range models available in 5.56mm NATO (223 Rem) and 7.62mm NATO (308 Win). Both MVP-LR and MVP-LR Tactical rifles come with 10-round magazines, but also accept aftermarket AR-style magazines.

The new MVP LRs feature Mossberg’s Lightning Bolt Action Trigger System, medium bull, carbon steel barrels threaded for mounting compatible suppressors or muzzle brakes, and come with a protective thread cap. They also boast a new stock design with fully-stippled stocks with an adjustable, integrated comb, black rubberized finish. The comb can be adjusted for cast (approximately .5 inch of adjustment) and a simple, push button on the stock provides a custom-like fit for proper eye/sight alignment with up to 1.5 inches of height adjustment.
