In the video below, Chris Cheng demonstrates for beginners how to properly grip a semiauto pistol. And believe it or not, some firearm instructors and experienced shooters would benefit from revisiting/improving their grip technique from time to time.
In addition to winning Top Shot, Chris Cheng is a NRA News commentator, author of the book Shoot to Win, and he’s a professional marksman sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Leupold and Salient Arms.
This video is just one of many great instructional pieces available through the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). As the trade association for the firearms industry, the NSSF’s mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 11,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen's organizations and publishers.
A key component to the NSSF’s mission is introducing beginners (of all ages) to shooting sports. Two programs of special note include First Shots and the NSSF Rimfire Challenge. The former serves as an introduction because the NSSF knows that learning how to shoot or finding a nearby gun range can be an intimidating hurdle. The latter is a .22 rifle and pistol program created to introduce new people to the shooting sports and provide a pathway to shooting competition.
