Mule Deer Kill Dogs In Montana

Deer can be aggressive with dogs, and occasionally with people.

At least two dogs have been killed in Montana by mule deer according to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks

Warden Sgt. Dave Loewen explained to media, “The does are stashing fawns and unfortunately a dog in the area gets to barking and then the doe goes into protection mode and sees it as a threat. That’s what happened in the two cases where dogs have been killed.” Loewen also warned, “Fawns can be anywhere, but the mother is around somewhere and can get aggressive with dogs, and occasionally with people.” He added to keep dogs on a leash or confined to avoid a potential confrontation
