Montana Considering Elk Fence Following Motorist Death

Elk have surpassed the recommended limit!

Montana transportation officials are considering the installation of a $1.5 million fencing project to funnel elk under the interstate between Drummond and Jens following the death of Duane Carlton who died on June 6 when his motorcycle collided with an elk in this same area.

Wildlife officials report that the most recent elk count was over 1,200 in the hunting district quarter in the Drummond area, well above the movement goal of 800 to 1,200 for the whole hunting district.

Drive carefully out there!
