Despite making a living – a very nice living – portraying guys that carry guns in a slough of movies, actor Matt Damon is not a big fan of firearms.
In fact he told Australian reporter Sarah Thomas this week that he’d like the US to do what her country did in regards to firearms.
Damon said, “You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it's such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly. We just can't. People get so emotional that even when you make a suggestion about not selling AK47s to people on terror watch lists, that's a non-starter. I don't know what needs to happen.”
The actor was referring to a buyback program that Australia instituted back in the 1990’s following a mass shooting. The government purchased and destroyed 650,000 firearms from citizens and today owning a gun in Oz is near impossible.
Again, this from an actor that carries firearms in more than half his movies and has killed dozens on screen.
What do you think of Damon’s stance?
