A GREAT Great Dane

Major stands more than seven foot tall when standing on his hind legs and weighs 168 pounds.

The Great Dane.

Originally bred for hunting bear, boar, and deer, pulling knights off horses, and protecting royalty, today Great Danes are most often utilized as household pets.

Now one of those pets is poised to be crowned the world's tallest dog

Major is a three year old Great Dane owned by Brian and Julie Williams from Penmaen, South Wales.

Major stands more than seven foot tall when standing on his hind legs (do dogs do that very often?), weighs 168 pounds, and eats a special diet of lots and lots of chicken and rice.

Major sleeps roughly 22 hours a day…

Lucky!

And sleeps on an adult –sized mattress.

Major and his owners are patiently awaiting news from Guinness to see if he is in fact the tallest dog in the world.

Shame they don’t take Major out to take down a bear or two every now and again.
