"They are a blast on light tackle" - Jonathan Leavitt

The Shad and Herring run signals the official start of the fishing season, the hieght of it usually coincides with the dogwoods blooming. For about 3-4 weeks every spring the Shad and Herring make their way up rivers all along the east coast to spawn and their numbers are impressive, 150-200 fish days are not uncommon. If you have never fished for them you are missing out, they are easy to fish for and are a blast on light tackle.
