Strike King 6XD Crankbait
Strike King has been the industry leader in spinnerbaits for years. They recently elevated their position in plastics with KVD's Perfect Plastics and the entire Rage Tail line-up. Strike King crankbaits were the next thing they concentrated on and guess what? They are now the rage too.
It seems that anything the Strike King puts their collective minds to results in big results. They had several niche markets cornered, as mentioned above, but crankbaits until recently were something to fill out their portfolio. The new colors, sizes and shapes are now home runs and anglers everywhere are clammoring for them. They not only look great, run true and catch fish but them have a very attractive price point as well.
First came the Redeye Shad. This lipless little ripper was designed to fall horizontally and right out of the gate Kevin VanDam cemented a win on Harris Chain with them. Everything got "Sexy" after that and the new Sexy Shad colors caught fish and anglers equally well. "There is something about this color that bass love" noted Kevin VanDam. He parlayed that color into several more wins and having other crankbait experts on staff like Mark Davis didn't hurt either. "We had a Series 5 and a Series 6 that dove from 12-14 feet respectively but there are times we needed a deeper diving plug. Strike King desingers listened and we now have the Strike King Series 6 XD that dives deeper to fish we have been missing. Lakes like Kentucky Lake are perfect for this bait" said Davis. "Depending on line size and casting distance I can now get down below 15 feet."
The Series 6 XD, XD means X-tra Deep, is perfect for ledges and works great in open water for suspending bass too. We really liked the way it casts and because of its aerodynamic profile it won't wear you out after a day of fishing. Some of the other deep divers we have used don't have as much wobble, they come more straight in, and are hard to feel. Since we like to feel the bait on the retrieve the wider wobble is more condusive to detecting strikes. Its casts well even in the wind, systematic flat areas send out more pressure waves and it has a zero degree diving plane.
Teamed with 10 pound Berkley mono, a REVO Winch reel and a Setyr Cranking rod we were about to hit the bottom in 16 foot of water. It is had medium buoyancy which allows the bait to slowly elevate after hitting a rock or a stump.
The Inside Scoop
The Series 6 XD comes in 12 colors and we especially like Sexy Ghost Minnow, Sexy Blue Back Herring and Baby Carp.
