Stanton letting "dogs" out of doghouse

All three have been in coach John L. Smith's doghouse at some point, but all three have come out to play key roles in back-to-back Big Ten wins for Michigan State.

Michigan State outlast Illini 35-28

Drew Stanton threw three touchdown passes and caught another leading Michigan State to a 35-28 win over Illinois. Afterwards, Stanton made a point of singling out Agim Shabaj as a key to the win. Both former Farmington Hills high school teammates have been in coach John L. Smith's doghouse at some point this season.

Notebook: Knott, Shabaj demoted, Injury Update

Spared from a demotion was running back Jason Teague, who allowed Notre Dame safety Tom Zbikowski to take the ball out of this hands, halting a Spartan scoring drive in the red zone. Zbikowski then ran 75-yards in the other direction for a Notre Dame score.

Smoker sparkles in 26-21 win over Western

It was a triumphant return to the football field for Spartan quarterback Jeff Smoker. Smoker completed 21-of-34 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Spartans to a closer than expected 26-21 win.
