Davis: Cap and gown, then the hard hat

SCOTT DAVIS, the defensive playmaker surpeme from Kennewick, didn't mince words. He put heart and soul into preparations for his Pro Day workout two months ago. Perhaps an inch short and a step slow, he knew he was a longshot for even a free agent tryout. After he graduates this Saturday, Davis will trade his Cougar helmet for the professional variety.

Cougs shine as NFL scouts look on

PULLMAN -- Scouts from about a dozen NFL teams, plus the CFL's B.C. Lions, kept their stopwatches close to the vest Wednesday as they put 10 WSU seniors through workouts. But the buzz coming out of The Bubble was that two Cougs wanting badly to improve on their showings from last week's NFL Combine did just that. And one of their 323-pound teammates looked downright swift motoring down the line.

Pullman Pro Day: 10 Cougs ready to strut

JASON HILL IS slated to be drafted as high as the first round, but for the rest of the outgoing WSU senior football players looking for a shot at pro ball, today offers a huge opportunity to make a statement. Cougar Notebook: Apple Cup Eve Edition

SEVEN COUGAR ASSISTANT coaches were on the recruiting trail within 24 hours of last year's Apple Cup victory. They'll be home for Thanksgiving and then back out shortly with specific positions in mind.

UPDATED: Doba shakes up practice routine

THE COUGS ARE TIRED and beat up, mentally and physically here in Week 12 of a bye-less season, said Bill Doba Tuesday. And so the coaches will do something they haven't done all year, take off the pads for the entire practice week. Doba said you'd probably have to tear Scott Davis' heart out to keep him off the field, all the injury news plus a potentially great linebacker waiting in the wings.

Injury Report: Davis looking to strap it up?

AT THE OUTSET of the Apple Cup practice week, a number of key players are listed in the WSU equivalents of 'day to day' and 'probable'. Among the notable names is that of LB Scott Davis. Despite suffering a fractured wrist against ASU, the senior captain has been cleared for limited practice, potentially boding well for his chances to take the field in the regular season finale against the UW.

Arizona State 101: Feeling the Heat

AFTER BEING RANKED in the preseason Top 25 and opening the year 3-0, the Sun Devils have arguably become the conferences biggest disappointment. They've lost four of six conference games, nearly all in blowout fashion and now the best case scenario appears a lower tier bowl game for the team Dirk Koetter called, just a few months ago, the most talented he'd ever coached.

8 youthful questions for Scott Davis

HE'S A THREE-YEAR STARTER and two-time All-Pac-10 honorable mention pick who was once dubbed by The Sporting News as the biggest defensive playmaker in the Pac-10. Yet Cougar linebacker and team captain Scott Davis is one of the most unassuming people you could possibly meet.
