PAC-10 Women's Conference Tournament Update

The first three games of the PAC-10 women's tournament ended in upsets, as for the first time in tournament history, even the league's bottom seed managed to advance to the quarterfinals. But by the end of the second day of action, all but one of the top seeds were headed to Saturday's semifinals, where they will be joined by sixth-ranked USC, which upset the Number-Three seed, Arizona State.

Coug women: Composure could use a boost

SEATTLE -- During the week prior to the game, there was a belief that the Washington State women's basketball team had it within themselves to end what had become 13 years of losing to cross-state rival Washington. After all, the Cougars of 2008-09 had won seven nonconference games, the most by WSU women since the 1995-96 squad won nine.

BOISE – As a Cougar living in Boise, the mere notion of any WSU team coming to town quickens the pulse. When the crimson and gray are actually on the ground here in Bronco country, you make the most of it. So it was, Thursday, that I was on hand not just for the WSU women's basketball team's victory over BSU, but the Cougs' practice session earlier in the day, too. And let me tell you something.

Daugherty full of confidence as season nears

IT WOULD SEEM appropriate for coach June Daugherty to temper enthusiasm about her upcoming women's basketball team at Washington State simply because of the program's bleak history. But pessimism never has been a part of Daugherty's annual preseason outlook of her teams' prospects, whether at Boise State (1989-96), Washington (1996-2007) or now at WSU, where she is beginning her second season.
