SEATTLE - Washington wide receiver James Johnson has retired from football due to a lingering wrist injury suffered last fall, head coach Steve Sarkisian announced today. Johnson, who would have been a fifth-year senior this fall, will remain on athletic scholarship until he completes his degree.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins' indefinite suspension based on a DUI arrest will most likely overshadow anything else that gets reported on this spring, and that's a shame because some real progress has been made with Washington's receivers and tight ends - namely the opportunities gained by going no-huddle and up-tempo through the first six practices in March.

Since the pre-spring press conference on Monday, Steve Sarkisian has made it pretty clear he wants his defense to create more turnovers and his offense to take care of the ball better than they did in 2012. Well, he got his wish on one of those Thursday night, but it remains to be seen if it can be sustained over the next month or so...

SEATTLE - Sometimes it just make sense to go take a flying leap. And that's what Washington did Thursday after their shortened practice on the east field by Husky Stadium. Steve Sarkisian led the charge, but not after talking about some more injuries, position moves and what he's been impressed with during the first week-and-a-half of fall camp.
