A sea of yellow jerseys

PULLMAN--Full contact was all the rage on Tuesday. Plenty of players returned to action, but that also resulted in a sea of yellow no-contact jerseys. Intensity, though, was high -- the Cougs were still banging bodies left and right, and big hits were plentiful. A reserve defensive lineman went down hard midway through practice and it looks like WSU will have a new starting running back for Cal.

PULLMAN — If John Fullington needs a nickname, ‘the exception' might fit the bill. True freshmen don't usually play on the o-line at the Pac-10 level, let alone at left tackle. But that's exactly where he'll be Saturday when the Cougs face Stanford. Meanwhile, center Zack Williams, "embarrassed" by the trajectory of his shotgun snaps against Arizona, put in extra time on it Wednesday.

Wulff seeks speed, Burns moves to RB

PULLMAN – Monday was a day of change, both anticipated and unanticipated, for the Cougs. As expected, the offensive line rotation was at full pitch with the season ending forearm fracture suffered by LT David Gonzales. But the coaches had another wrinkle in store, too. Redshirt freshman LB Arthur Burns made his return to the offense, and the running back position he starred at as a prepster.

Cougs go full speed again, and not done yet

PULLMAN -- The bodies were banging again on Wednesday at full throttle out on Rogers Field, and it was a walk-on defensive lineman who set the pace early. And as for Justin Mann, he just might have a little extra added incentive come Saturday. Meanwhile, Paul Wulff continues to shake the routine up this practice week headed into the UCLA tilt on Saturday. Want more contact? You've got it.

Cougs focused, angry in week's first practice

PULLMAN -The Cougs took Rogers Field on Monday night for a short, spirited shoulder pads and helmets-only session, and CF.C turned the mic on Paul Wulff plus seniors Chantz Staden and Kevin Kooyman. And before Cougar Nation, as well as the players and coaches, put Week 1 in the rear view mirror for good, they had something to say about it. And one spoke directly to Cougar Nation.

DAY 5: Full contact brings big hits, volume

PULLMAN -- The first day in full pads resulted in a tie at Washington State's practice Thursday. Not a tie on the scoreboard -- a tie between players and coaches for passion and energy. The defense had a big day, with Myron Beck, Kevin Kooyman, Tyree Toomer, Chima Nwachukwu and Nolan Washington all making the highlight reel. Plus, a true frosh got in some work with the No. 1 O, and much more.

Special teams battles well underway for Cougs

PULLMAN – Dave Ungerer, the first-year Washington State assistant coach with a national reputation for his special teams prowess, knows exactly what he wants to say. Ask him his aim with the Cougar special teams and he wastes no words. Ask him if senior kicker Nico Grasu, coming off a tough year, is going to hang onto his job and the coach is uplifting yet open ended.

FIRST PHOTOS: Fall Camp, Day 1

PULLMAN--It's been 106 days since the Cougars last suited up and took to the practice field -- and while full pads and full contact won't take place for a few days yet, the playing field on Sunday, the first day of fall camp, was awash in crimson and gray. And the action was pitched, and the CF.C lens was on hand.
