HOW MANY COUGARS will be selected in the two-day NFL draft the begins today? If you listen to the "gurus," probably only one as Washington State All-American running back Jerome Harrison is a lock. But there are other potential picks -- and if the first overall selection of this year's draft is any indication, the "experts" are already off to a desultory start. This draft began with a surprise, and a few more of them could involve Cougars before it's all said and done.

COUGAR ADAM BRAIDWOOD was selected Thursday by the Edmonton Eskimos with the first overall pick in the 2006 Canadian Football League Draft. The two-year starting defensive end is the second Cougar to be the top selection overall, joining former WSU defensive lineman Rob Meier, who was the top pick in the 1999 CFL Draft. But will he embark on a professional career in his native Canada, or will the NFL come calling?

PULLMAN — Three-plus months of intensive preparation for 10 WSU seniors boiled down to just a couple of hours this week on their home turf in Pullman. Wale Dada summed up afterward what each one of WSU's Pro Day participants must have been thinking: "If they give me a hole, I have to rip it wide open."
