Even as a tyke, future Coug owned the gym

SINCE THE EARLY 1990s, no one has had a better pulse on basketball in Seattle than Daryll Hennings. He's the senior athletic director at Seattle Rotary Boys and Girls Club, which has produced an incredible array of talent over the years. He's mentored so many of the area's finest that Sports Illustrated mentioned him prominently in a 2010 story about Seattle's pipeline to the NBA.

Seen & Heard on Planet Coug

MORE PROOF THAT recruiting is more art than science. This past football season, there were 27 players on NFL active rosters at year's end who hailed from high schools in the state of Washington, according to MaxPreps.com. Of those 27, a whopping 30 percent of them – eight total -- didn't play their college ball in a major conference.

No word from Moos on Bone status

LAS VEGAS – The silence was deafening in the Washington State Cougars locker room Wednesday evening. Almost as deafening as the silence of Bill Moos. Washington State's athletic director did nothing to quiet fan chatter about the status of basketball coach Ken Bone when Moos declined to respond to a Cougfan.com request for an update on Bone's status.

Here's a look at those plus many more of the numbers, stats and figures with Pac-12 Tournament play coming up fast for Wazzu on Wednesday night.

Almost time to say goodbye to a WSU great

SET THE CALENDAR for Saturday. Tune it in on the radio at 3:30 p.m. if you're out and about. Record it on the DVR if you must. But don't miss the home finale for one of the best Cougar basketballers to ever play the game in Pullman. And hell, given what's already happened this week in Wazzu hoops, might it also be the beginning of something, right at the end?

This time, Cougs finish it off in a big way

PULLMAN -- Three consecutive Cougar dunks were mere technicalities as the No. 23 UCLA Bruins could only sit and watch as Washington State's Cougars embraced their first win on the hardcourt in 10 tries. Two starters down and facing a squad they hadn't beaten in two decades at home, the Cougs gave a delirious, albeit small, crowd all they wanted and more in a game they lead wire-to-wire.

Cougs may return to full strength this week

THE STATUS OF Washington State senior guard Mike Ladd has been upgraded. That does not mean Ladd, who has been sidelined for five games, will definitely play this week as the Cougars wrap up their regular season with home contests Wednesday against UCLA (TV: Pac-12 networks) and Saturday versus USC. Coach Ken Bone discussed Ladd, the state of the program and more during his Tuesday teleconference.
