'I Want To Be the Whole Package'

The Saints raised a few eyebrows this year when they moved up in the NFL Draft to select safety Vonn Bell in the 2nd round. With Jairus Byrd & Kenny Vaccaro still under contract, many in the Who Dat Nation thought the Saints had more pressing needs to fulfill in the Draft. But after closely watching Bell throughout OTAs, minicamp, and a week of training camp, I'm convinced the Saints made the right move picking up the former Ohio State Buckeye. Here, Bell talks about his versatility to the team.

Are Byrd & Vaccaro Ready to Blossom?

Before the 2014 season began, the NFL Network selected the Saints duo of Jairus Byrd and Kenny Vaccaro as the 2nd best safety combo in the entire league, behind only the Seahawks duo of Earl Thomas & Kam Chancellor. After all, Vaccaro had come off a fantastic rookie season that saw New Orleans advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs. And after 3 Pro Bowl seasons, the Saints had just made Byrd the highest paid safety in the NFL. And although the bottom dropped out, Sean Payton is optimistic...

'I Hold Myself to a High Standard'

On paper, the New Orleans Saints starting defensive backfield consisting of Jairus Byrd, Kenny Vaccaro, Delvin Breaux and Keenan Lewis actually looks pretty good. The problem with the National Football League is that actual games are not played on paper. Debilitating injuries have been the primary culprit for lack of success within this quartet, particularly with Byrd, who was supposed to be the group's leader. Here, Jairus describes how his father has helped him through these tough times.

'We're Going to Be a Different Team'

There are a lot of big 'ifs' on this New Orleans Saints defense. 'If' Stephone Anthony can adapt to the move from inside linebacker to the outside. 'If' the Saints can find a pass rusher opposite Cameron Jordan. 'If' Jairus Byrd and Keenan Lewis can come back from injury and play the type football both are capable of. But one of the biggest 'ifs' is whether up-and-down strong safety Kenny Vaccaro can become a Pro Bowl-type player. Here's Vaccaro talking about this year's Saints defense.

Super Bowl Leader Comes Home

Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis hit an absolute home run with their first NFL Draft class in 2006. Reggie Bush, Marcus Colston, Jahri Evans and Zach Strief all played pivotal roles on that Saints Super Bowl team. Rob Ninkovich did the same for the Patriots. 2nd round pick Roman Harper was another Saint who played an integral part on that great 2009 team, as well as many others during his 8 years in New Orleans. After a 2-year hiatus with Carolina, the 2-time Pro Bowler is back. Here's why.

Vonn Bell Plans to Learn From Saints Veterans

Although the New Orleans Saints secondary has been depleted by injury in recent years, the starting unit of Jairus Byrd, Kenny Vaccaro, Keenan Lewis and Delvin Breaux looks pretty solid on paper....if they're healthy. But in the pass-happy NFL, a great nickel corner or 3rd safety is an absolute must. And Saints 2nd round pick Vonn Bell expects to be that player. The former Ohio State Buckeye may not lack confidence, but he's also very respectful of the incumbent players on the roster.

Door Open for Former Wisconsin Badger

Timing is everything in life...and it's certainly no different in the NFL. And for former Wisconsin safety Michael Caputo, his timing might actually be perfect. Caputo comes into a situation in New Orleans where the Saints lost Rafael Bush to free agency and Vinnie Sunseri, was recently waived. Starters Jairus Byrd and Kenny Vaccaro's jobs are safe, as is 2nd round pick Vonn Bell, but don't bet against the feisty Badger joining the fray. Just ask LSU superstar running back Leonard Fournette.
