Every player who gets drafted into the NFL generally wants to get on the football field as soon as possible. And for quarterbacks, who are used to being the 'big man on campus' in college, the want for immediate playing time is usually tenfold. Aaron Rodgers was exasperated at having to pack up superstar Brett Favre for 4 years with the Packers. But now, Rodgers is considered to be the best pure quarterback in the NFL. When Garrett Grayson was drafted in the 3rd round last season, it was assumed that the former Colorado State Ram was chosen to be Drew Brees heir apparent as quarterback for the Saints. After all, players chosen in the first three rounds are expected to become full time starters at least by their third season in the NFL. It's hard to imagine Brees not finishing his career in a Saints uniform...but you never know. Here's Grayson talking about his soaring confidence...and Louisiana's brutal heat!

Although the announcement was made last week, the news became official today. The New Orleans Saints re-signed quarterback Luke McCown to a 2-year contract this afternoon. Although signing a backup QB is generally not considered earth shattering news, it does give the Who Dat Nation extra comfort, especially considering Drew Brees is 37-years old, and the only other backup on the roster is Garrett Grayson, who has yet to play a single down of NFL football.

In recent years, the New Orleans Saints have made a habit of living in salary cap hell, forcing them to restructure contracts and waiving those who refuse to do so. It's an unfortunate necessary evil after spending many offseason robbing Peter in order to pay Paul. Somehow, the Saints always seem to find players on the free agent market. But before they can look elsewhere, decisions must be made on several of their own players, from Khiry Robinson to Benjamin Watson. Here are my thoughts...
