DONNIE MARBUT SPEAKS glowingly about the future of Washington State baseball, and Bill Moos says he's determined to make certain Marbut is part of that future. Moos, WSU's athletic director, said Thursday he plans to discuss a new contract with Marbut "in the next two or three weeks." Marbut has one year left on a three-year contract.

NORMAN, Okla. -- It is tempting, of course, to blame Washington State's incredible collapse -- or, depending on your perspective, Arkansas' incredible rally -- on post-season pedigree. The Razorbacks are playing in the NCAA baseball regionals for the eighth consecutive year. The Cougars are playing in regionals for the first time in 19 years. Experience won out in the end, right?

PULLMAN -- It has been said that it is better to be lucky than good. If so, it is even better to be lucky AND good. Case in point: The Washington State baseball team. The Cougars came from behind to win for the 16th time Sunday, and a lethal mix of skill and luck ultimately led to victory for the umpteenth time.

CORVALLIS -- You know Donnie Marbut wanted to say it. Wanted to scream it. Wanted to tell it to everyone in the world. Instead, Washington State's normally brash baseball coach put a zip lock on his normally talkative lips and stopped just short of saying Sunday's heart-stopping 7-6 win at Oregon State clinched WSU's first NCAA regionals berth in 19 years.
