The Army Black Knights concluded their spring football practice with the annual Black & Gold game at a chilly Michie Stadium on Wednesday. The Spring game matched the offense and defense in a controlled scrimmage that focused on game situations. Using a modified scoring system the offense ran away with a 35-16 victory over the defense.

The Black Knights opened their second week of "spring" practice with limited contact drills on Monday and Wednesday. On Friday they practiced without pads. Saturday was the first controlled scrimmage of the spring with the offense and defense facing off against each other in situational matchups.

The Black Knights opened their third pre-spring, spring football practice under the leadership of head coach Rich Ellerson last week. After completing Army's first winning season since 1996 Army football is faced with the task of replacing all the defense's impact players and the entire offensive line.

Anyone who's followed Army since Rich Ellerson took the reins knows his mantra regarding position flexibility. He flat out tells recruits that they are football players first not the position they played in high school. We've seen these switches at a number of positions with the most famous being the move of left tackle Ali Villaneuva to wide receiver.
