Free-agency a frenzy, says Cougs' Gonzales

SUDDENLY, AFTER A long day of not hearing his name called, David Gonzales was a popular man. In the middle of the seventh and final round of the NFL draft Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers called the Cougar offensive lineman. They said they weren't going to be able to draft him but wanted to sign him as a free agent once the proceedings ended. And then the opportunities really started pouring in.

Hoffman-Ellis, stock rising, awaits NFL draft

ALEX-HOFFMAN ELLIS, a wild-eyed warrior on the football field, often shocks fans who meet him for the first time away from the field and discover that he's usually rather laidback when the helmet and shoulder pads come off. Outgoing Cougs set for NFL Pro Day in Pullman

PULLMAN — Friday is Pro Day on the Palouse, when NFL and CFL scouts descend on Pullman to put outgoing Cougar seniors through a series of drills to see if they have what it takes to compete at the next level. In talking with three of the Cougs who will be on hand, there is no getting around it: They consider this audition one of the biggest days of their lives.
