IN A CANDID, compelling opening statement on Monday, Oregon State AD Bob De Carolis said he was wrong in issuing a letter of public support for Craig Robinson six weeks ago. "As you know, I issued a strongly worded letter of support for Coach Robinson that day. Since that time, and after further evaluation, thought and discussion, I decided on Thursday that my initial decision was wrong," he said.
OREGON STATE issued a release from Athletic Director Bob De Carolis on Monday, announcing that basketball coach Craig Robinson has been relieved of his duties effective immediately, and that a national search for Robinson's successor has begun. A press conference has also been scheduled.

THERE WAS A point at the end of the first half in the Oregon State-Washington game that offered a prefect preview of what was to come in the second half. The Beavers produced all the defensive strength of a wet paper towel as the clock wound down, allowing lots of room and an open look. UW cashed in on that occasion, and many more times against the Beavers in the 86-62 loss at Gill Coliseum.
