Beach Barton Ford won the Portsmouth Invitational consolation championship game with a 117-100 win over Norfolk Sports Club. Beach Barton Ford had three players score more than 20 points and a record-setting perforamcne by point guard Jose Juan Berea from Northeastern.

The Connecticut Huskies continue to cut it close but now find themselves just one victory short of confirming their Indianapolis-bound reservations. Fellow Big East Conference member Villanova also has a Sunday task to complete before its players can start thinking about playing in Indy on April 1.

6-8 sophomore Ed Nelson of Georgia Tech, who was the 2002 ACC Rookie of the Year, has transferred to Connecticut. Nelson averaged 8.1 points and 6.5 rebounds (eighth in the ACC) this season. However, he started only twelve of Tech's 31 games after starting 28 games as a freshman. Nelson played his high school ball at Fort Lauderdale's St. Thomas Aquinas High School, but originally hails from the Boston area. He has family there and was considering Boston College.
