Edebali Brings Experience to D-End Battle

Because of his exuberant personality, many folks are rooting for 3rd year veteran Kasim "The Dream" Edebali in his 3-way competition to be the starter at defensive end on the side opposite of Cam Jordan. This just might be the friendliest, yet fierce, battle for playing time I've ever seen on a football field. Edebali, Obum Gwacham & Davis Tull are all extremely confident in their own abilities, but are still helpful to each other. Here's Edebali talking about his battle to start for the Saints.

Davis Tull Loves the Competition

Although Saints defensive end Davis Tull never played a down of Division 1 College Football, he is still an NFL caliber player, and possibly even a starter. As an FCS collegiate football player at Chattanooga, Tull played both d-end & linebacker, and started in a school record 48 straight games. Besides being the Southern Conference's all-time sack leader, he was also incredibly the conference's Defensive Player of the Year 3 straight years. There's nothing like a good, healthy competition to get the juices flowing. And perhaps the toughest position battle at Saints Training Camp belongs to the trio of young candidates all vying to be the starter at defensive end opposite Pro Bowler Cam Jordan. After Hau'oli Kikaha went down with a severely torn ACL in his knee, the competition was on between Obum Gwachum, Kasim Edebali and Davis Tull. Saints Tapping All Resources

After Hau'oli Kikaha went down last month in minicamp with a season ending ACL tear, it left the New Orleans Saints coaching staff once again scratching its heads as to who would be the one to step up in his absence. There is no shortage of impressive young candidates, including 2nd year players Obum Gwachum, Davis Tull and Bobby Richardson, as well as 3rd year "veteran" Kasim Edebali. Today, the Saints elected to add a veteran insurance policy signing a player going into his 11th NFL season.
