Damontre Harris has begun the process of getting on the court in a game for the Gators, but it won't happen until next season. He's working out with the team and helping No. 3 Florida prepare for games as a member of the scout team. Harris decided over Christmas break that he didn't want to transfer and would like to earn his way back on the team in Gainesville.

Damontre Harris realized over Christmas break that he made a mistake. He decided to reach out to Florida coach Billy Donovan and apologize for the way he handled his time in Gainesville. Harris is now back in classes at Florida after having a chance to transfer elsewhere. He won't play this season but will try to work his way back onto the team for the 2014-15 season.

As Damontre Harris grew further and further from his place on the Florida basketball team, it seemed unlikely he would rejoin the team. On Saturday morning, it became official. Harris will transfer from Florida after never playing a game for the Gators.

Florida thought it was getting its future at center and a solid backup for Patric Young when Damontre Harris announced his intentions to transfer from South Carolina to Gainesville. Instead, it has been nothing but headaches for the Florida staff. Harris isn't practicing with the team and hasn't had any recent contact with head coach Billy Donovan.

These are the tough times for the transfers on the Florida basketball team. Virginia Tech forward transfer Dorian Finney-Smith and South Carolina transfer Damontre Harris can't play this season because of NCAA rules, and the Florida coaches will do their best to keep their spirits up. Harris is injured and can't practice this season, but Finney-Smith has to continue helping the team in practice.

After tearing his labrum and having his shoulder pop out last week in practice, Florida center Damontre Harris had surgery to repair it on Monday. There was doubt about whether he would have the surgery or try to strengthen it and make it a quicker recovery. The surgery will be better for the joint long term, and since Harris is sitting out this year after transferring, it made sense to be smart.
