Forward Stanley Gaines left Minnesota after starting 17 contests as a sophomore as the Gophers finished just 12-18, winning only three Big Ten games. Gaines averaged 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game and was the team's defensive stopper. Gaines transferred to Seton Hall and averaged 5.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest last season and is having the best season of his career this year.

Minnesota sophomore forward Stanley Gaines announced last month that he was leaving the Gophers after starting 17 contests, averaging 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds and becoming the team's defensive stopper. It now looks like the Chicago native will land in the Big East.

There had been plenty of talk about Minnesota sophomore forward Stanley Gaines leaving the program early in the 2003-04 season, and many fans felt that they might be better without the Chicago native. However, Gaines made great strides in his game and started 17 contests, averaging 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds and becoming the team's defensive stopper. Gaines had become a key player and was expected to carry a bigger role next season. Unfortunately, it looks like Gaines might be transferring.
