This Date in Cardinal Hoops: 3-04-04

The Bootleg's Mark DeVaughn looks back at one of the all-time miraculous buzzer-beaters as Matt Lottich canned a last-second turnaround jumper to beat the host Washington State Cougs and lead Mike Montgomery's 2003-04 team, his last as a Cardinal head coach, to an unfathomable 25-0...There were Stanford heroes all around and it all happened five years ago today... on This Day in Cardinal Hoops!

NIT From the Cheap Seats

It is a safe bet: when Stanford shows up in the Show Me State, our columnist in Columbia will be there. He was one of the very few Cardinalmaniacs in the stands Friday night for the season-ending game for Stanford Basketball at Missouri State. Before departing Springfield, he filed this account of the game, with reactions and observerations on a difficult night dominated by the officials.

A disappointed Dan Grunfeld joined him. See the seniors' reaction to their performance, plus the commentary by head coach Trent Johnson.

Senior Day Swoon Was Home Finale

Somewhere in the back of the minds of the 7,334 fans this afternoon at Maples Pavilion, there was the idea that today's awful defeat to UCLA would not necessarily be the home finale for the Cardinal's four beloved seniors. Stanford may play their postseason in the NIT, which could offer more home games still this season. The decision has been made, however, to make this Senior Day the final Maples appearance for Stanford's seniors.

Bootleg Video: Dan Grunfeld

Dan Grunfeld manufactured last year one of the most surprising and wonderful seasons in the program's history, all due to his unrelenting work, yet an ACL injury undid that all and has had him labor this year. Recently, illness took him down a notch just as he was rounding into form. When he spoke with the local media this week, however, Grunfeld maintained a positive attitude and focused on his Stanford experiences and teammates.
