Idaho's 2014 standouts

AS FRUSTRATING AS THE 2014 SEASON HAS BEEN, there have been several bright spots on this year's team with athletes that lead the Sun Belt Conference and the nation. Among the leaders is Idaho's tackle leader, junior outside linebacker MARC MILLAN, Ray Guy finalist sophomore punter Austin Rehkow, senior wide receiver Joshua McCain, and senior defensive tackle Quayshawne Buckley.

Not enough offense against Troy

AT TIMES DURING THE FIRST HALF SATURDAY the Vandal offense was potent, including this 64 yard strike to senior JOSHUA MCCAIN (he finished the game with 128 yards on 7 receptions). But that all ended after halftime where Idaho was unable to add to their 17 first half points. With the loss Idaho falls to 1-9 (1-6 Sun Belt) as they prepare for the season finale at Appalachian State in two weeks.

Several in this class are among the best in the Sun Belt Conference and are nationally ranked, led by wide receiver JOSH MCCAIN, center MIKE MARBOE, and defensive tackle QUAYSHAWNE BUCKLEY. We thank this class for their commitment to the Idaho program.

McCain added to Biletnikoff Award Watch List

SIGNED OUT OF JC AS A QUARTERBACK LAST YEAR, senior JOSH MCCAIN worked under center as a backup who saw significant playing time. Called to duty to give the offense a spark, McCain's athletic ability was impressive. This spring he selflessly agreed to move to wide receiver and has been outstanding, climbing to the top of the depth chart and gaining 568 yards with six TDs as Idaho's No.1 target.

THE VANDALS BATTLED BACK from a 17-0 second quarter deficit with a big third quarter effort to pull within 20-17 at the start of the fourth quarter. But when the Bobcats needed scores late in the game, Idaho couldn't get a stop. Despite throwing three picks (one a tipped ball at the line), MATT LINEHAN was poised while throwing for 353 yards and two touchdowns, completing 33-of-55 attempts.

Vandals drop home opener to Western Michigan

ALTHOUGH IDAHO REDSHIRT FRESHMAN quarterback Matt Linehan threw for over 300 yards for the second consecutive week, including hitting wide receiver JOSHUA MCCAIN on this 75-yard 4th quarter touchdown, the Vandals fell short in their 45-33 home opening loss to Western Michigan. Notably, Idaho's defense could not stop WMU tailback Jarvian Franklin who carved up the Vandals for 210 rushing yards.
