The question we wanted to ask was succinct: Is your phone ringing off the hook with calls from the 509, 206 and 503 area codes? The fact Jim hadn't called back by the time this column was filed hints at the likely answer.

IT WAS CLEAR FROM the moment Jim Sterk's plans for San Diego State were made public that the crimson faithful hoped Bill Moos would succeed him. But the depths to which the Cougar Nation wanted Moos back on the range can't be explained any better than this -- a tale that could only be written in Palouse country.

IF EVERYTHING comes to together as hoped, Bill Moos will be introduced any day now as Washington State's new director of athletics. For the 59-year-old Moos, who was raised in nearby Edwall and grew up cheering for the Cougs, his life's arc will have come full circle. But the heavy lifting will have just begun.

THIS WASN'T A visit, it was a coronation. Elson Floyd gushed about Bill Moos. Bill Moos gushed about Elson Floyd. And the audience included a Who's Who of Cougar royalty – Jack Thompson, Keith Lincoln, Chad Eaton and more – on hand to support Moos' candidacy for athletic director. Bobo Brayton gave a resounding endorsement of Moos, cutting to the heart of it all in his earnest manner.
