Murphy, demoted in the Philadelphia Phillies farm system after a disappointing 2010 season, was named the starting first baseman for the Northern Division in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on Tuesday night in Salisbury, Md.

Quartet of Cougs chosen in MLB Draft

THE WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS were not as successful as they had hoped on the baseball diamond this spring, but they were quite successful Tuesday in the major league draft. Four Cougars were drafted Tuesday, the second day of the draft. Other Cougars may be selected Wednesday, when the remaining 20 of the draft's 50 rounds will be held.

Cougs put a jolt into once-dim playoff hopes

PULLMAN -- There IS life after death. Need proof? Look no further than the 2011 Washington State baseball team. The Cougars, whose post-season hopes were hooked up to a feeding tube a week ago, extended their season-high winning streak to five before dropping a 6-5 decision to Washington on Sunday. The Cougs beat the Dawgs on Friday and Saturday to clinch their first Pac-10 series win of the year.
