Ellis Johnson is no stranger to making Spring-time position moves. And he made another one this year when he moved Devonte Holloman to SPUR and Damario Jeffery to weakside linebacker. The Gamecocks think their overall defense can be better that way, but they'll need young players to step up at the boundary safety position.

The second commitment of the 2011 South Carolina recruiting class was athlete Martay Mattox. The 6-2, 207 pound quarterback/defensive back committed to then-recruiting coordinator Shane Beamer back in May 2010. Mattox enrolled early at Carolina and has been participating in spring practice.

Martay Mattox had a sensational senior season at Clarke Central High School in Athens, Ga. He broke school records in passing yards (2075), touchdown passes (23), and completions (131) in a season. Even though he was only there two seasons, Clarke Central head coach Leroy Ryals was happy to have him in the school's red and gold.

The University of South Carolina won the SEC East Saturday night in Gainesville earning the right to play for the SEC Championship in Atlanta. Several commitments talked about the big win, the match-up against Auburn and the future in Columbia.
