The former WSU linebacker who opted to skip his final year of football eligibility in order to play a season-and-a-half of college basketball, came to mind last week with the news that 1) starting punter Jordan Dascalo isn't returning this season either, and 2) there's no logical successor to Dascalo on the roster. Five looks to be a key number for the Cougar men's basketball team coming into the 2010-11 season. Returning all five starters from last year's team, Washington State was chosen to finish fifth in the Pac-10 in a poll by media members who cover Pac-10 basketball. Head coach Ken Bone said the placement is on target.

PULLMAN - Washington State point guard Andre ('Dre) Winston may be only 6-1 but he gets to the rim with the ease of a big man. The freshman from Tacoma wasn't the only Coug who came close to banging his head on the backboard last week, however. The Cougs were dunking up a storm as they kicked off the season with a little Midnight Mayhem. CF.C was there with the camera to catch the action.

PULLMAN -- Six months ago, a young, scrawny and exhausted Washington State men's basketball team basically walked off the court and into the weight room after bowing to Oregon in overtime in the opening round of the Pac-10 Tournament. COUG FANS WHO were busy wringing their hands this offseason about when scorer Faisel Aden would get to Pullman can relax. The sharpshooter is enrolled at Washington State and took his first class on Monday, as did a number of other incoming Cougars.
