SEATTLE – Washington offensive lineman Dexter Charles has retired from football due to a lingering knee injury, head coach Chris Petersen announced today. Charles, who started 30 games over the last three seasons, mainly at left guard, was entering his fifth year at the UW. The Camano Island, Wash., product earned his bachelor's degree in anthropology last spring.

As it was going into spring football at Washington, the main question with regard to the Huskies’ offense in 2015 still revolves around the offensive line. When you lose four starters to graduation, position groups tend to take hits that take a while to recover. Can the UW OL bounce back to show they are ready to lead this fall?

With all due respect to Jeff Lindquist, KJ Carta-Samuels, or Jake Browning - they aren’t the most important piece to Washington’s offensive output in 2015. That part belongs to the five big guys up front, the offensive line. Without them, the UW skill players will have nowhere to go, but down. And after 15 spring practices, there are still more questions about the OL than answers.
