A "CELEBRATION OF LIFE" honoring the late Fred Thompson of the Oregon State football team will be held Thurs., Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Austin Auditorium at the LaSells Stewart Center on campus. The celebration is open to the public.

That's a tall order at this time, for multiple reasons, following the tragic and untimely death of Beaver defensive tackle Fred Thompson.

IT PROMISES TO be a long winter for Oregon State, which at 3-9 (3-6 Pac-12) lost nine games for the first time since the 1996 season, which then prompted the firing of Jerry Pettibone and the initial hiring of Mike Riley as the head coach. There's a quartet of players who redshirted this year who will be expected to play key roles in 2012. All four play on the offensive and defensive lines.
