Free-agency a frenzy, says Cougs' Gonzales

SUDDENLY, AFTER A long day of not hearing his name called, David Gonzales was a popular man. In the middle of the seventh and final round of the NFL draft Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers called the Cougar offensive lineman. They said they weren't going to be able to draft him but wanted to sign him as a free agent once the proceedings ended. And then the opportunities really started pouring in.

Hoffman-Ellis, other Cougs now wait for calls

WASHINGTON STATE linebacker Alex Hoffman-Ellis went undrafted Saturday on the third and final day of the NFL draft and now awaits what figures to be an array of calls from teams looking to sign him as a free agent. He joins a group of fellow Cougs, none considered as draftable as Hoffman-Ellis, who now look to sign on as free agents.

Cougs look at WR youth to fill Barton's void

After wide receiver Isiah Barton suffered a season-ending injury to his right knee versus Utah, that depth figures to receive a test as the Cougars close out the season at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against Washington at CenturyLink Field (TV: Versus).
